With a 22nd-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional Championship, the Miami University women's cross country team wrapped up its 2006 season. Highlights of the season included winning the Miami Invitational, placing junior Jennie Stoll on the all-conference second team and having Stoll and junior Sarah Henize named to the all-conference academic team.
AT THE REGIONAL MEET--GREAT LAKES CHAMPIONSHIP (NOV.12): Led by junior Jennie Stoll's 72nd-place finish, Miami finished 22nd in a 30-team field at the 2006 Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championship. At the 6K Mel Brodt Course, Stoll was the top Miami finisher for the fourth time this season, clocking in at 22:58. Stoll placed a little more than two minutes behind race winner Nicole Edwards of Michigan, who completed the course in 20:50. Miami placed two additional runners in the meet's top 105 finishers, as junior Mia Fiegelist and sophomore Erin McGowan finished 100th (23:26) and 104th (23:30), respectively. Miami placed ahead of conference foe Central Michigan and local rivals Xavier and Dayton in its final meet of the 2006 season.
AT THE CONFERENCE MEET--MAC CHAMPIONSHIP (OCT. 28): Junior Jennie Stoll finished 11th overall and Miami placed three runners in the top 35 as it finished eighth at the 2006 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship. At a rainy and muddy 5K course at Beaver Island State Park, Stoll finished in the MAC's top 12 for the second straight season, turning in an 11th-place time of 21:08. Battling through temperatures in the low 40's and steady winds of 20-30 mph, Stoll placed 66 seconds behind race winner Carime Reinhart of Ohio (20:02). Junior Mia Fiegelist and sophomore Erin McGowan joined Stoll in the meet's top 35 finishers, as they placed 32nd and 34th, respectively.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO: As Miami's lone all-MAC honoree, junior Jennie Stoll earned second-team all-MAC honors for the second straight season by placing 11th at the MAC Championship (Oct. 28). Stoll also finished ninth last season on her way to earning all-MAC status, and in each of her three seasons in Oxford, she has placed among the top 20 finishers in the conference. As a program, Miami has placed at least one runner on the all-MAC squad in each of the past nine seasons, with Stoll representing the 30th all-MAC honoree in program history.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO (PART II): Miami placed two athletes on the academic all-MAC team as juniors Jennie Stoll and Sarah Henize were tabbed as part of the 23-member team. Stoll, an early childhood education major with a 3.66 grade-point average, finished in Miami's scoring five at all seven meets, including a pair of top-five overall finishes in the season's first two meets. Stoll additionally was the top Miami finisher in four of the RedHawks' seven races. Henize, a zoology major with a 3.63 grade-point average, finished in the scoring five at four of Miami's seven meets and posted back-to-back top-six finishes at the season's first two meets. Henize was the only Miamian this season to earn MAC Runner of the Week honors (Sept. 12), a distinction she earned after taking home the individual title at the Miami Invitational. It was the second straight academic all-MAC honor for Stoll and the first of Henize's career.
MORE HARDWARE THAN HOME DEPOT: Miami had one runner individually recognized by the Mid-American Conference this season, as junior Sarah Henize was tabbed as the MAC Runner of the Week (Sept. 12) following her first-place finish at the Miami Invitational. Clocking in with a top time of 18:54, Henize won her first career individual title and posted her fourth career top-five finish. The runner of the week award was the first of Henize's career, and she was the first Miamian to win the award since Jennie Stoll on Sept. 21, 2004.
