OXFORD, OH -- Coming off a fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Miami's women's cross country team travels Saturday, Nov. 10 to Indiana State University, site of the 2001 NCAA Women's Great Lakes Regional Championship. The 6,000-meter race, which includes 33 teams, begins at 12:15 p.m.
The RedHawks are spearheaded by a trio of 2001 all-MAC selections, sophomores Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Alter) and Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville). Two years ago, Fryburg finished 11th at this meet and qualified for the NCAA Championship, becoming the first freshman in MAC history to do so. Last year, Kremer turned in a superb performance at the regional, coming in 15th.
Also competing for Miami in Terre Haute are sophomores Kate Steffen (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), Jenny Korrison (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) and freshmen Sarah Bertolini (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Meredith Magsig (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore).
The RedHawks came in 15th out of 31 at last year's regional meet.
The top two teams present in Terre Hatue, as well as the top four individuals, qualify for the NCAA Division I National Championship on Nov. 19 in Greenville, S.C. On Monday, Nov. 12, the Division I Cross Country Committee also will choose 13 at-large teams and two at-large individuals to travel to Greenville. In all, 31 teams and 38 runners will participate in the national championship.
