OXFORD, Ohio - In the eyes of the NCAA cross country and track and field are two separate sports but Miami women's head coach Rita Arndt-Molis is turning both teams into one big family.
Since being named head coach she has made many changes including asking her team to adapt a new life style year round. Coach Arndt-Molis also knows how to reward her team for the hard work that they have put in during off-season. Recently coach got the team together to hand out monthly awards.
Kelsey McHugh picked up the cross country and distance award for her performance at NCAA Pre-Nationals, where she posted the third-fastest time in school history on a 6-kilometer course.

"Kelsey is the perfect combination of grit, talent, work, perspective and humor when it comes to her athletics," Coach Arndt-Molis said. "She has diligently gone to work all season and is really starting to reap the benefits of her work. I look forward to seeing her continue to progress and know she will represent us well as we transition into the championship portion of the season."
The sprints athlete of the month award went to Alexis Lape, who is a returning athlete from a season ago. Lape is looking to make some serious noise in the Mid-American Conference this season.

"Coach Meinecke has been talking about Alexis all fall," Coach Arndt-Molis said. "She has been so impressive in all of their conditioning and testing activities. She's well ahead of last year's marks and I look forward to seeing her compete in just 5 weeks when we open the indoor season at Findlay."
The throws athlete of the month award was given to Alexis Dewitz for the work and progress that she has made in the javelin. This season will be Dewitz first throwing the Javelin.

"Alexia is moving into some new events this fall so we can try to capitalize on some scoring opportunities at the conference level," Coach Arndt-Molis said. "She is a true student of the sport and is doing a great job learning some new events. She is enthusiastic, hard working and capable which are the qualities we need throughout the team to be successful. I know Coach Rod is excited to continue to help her develop her throwing technique."
