YPSILANTI, Mich. - Miami's women's cross country team will compete Saturday, Oct. 27 at the 2001 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. The 13-team race, in which Central Michigan will look to defend its title, is run on the Eagle Crest Golf Course and is set to go off at 11 a.m.
The RedHawks are looking to redeem themselves after a 10th-place finish in 2000, a year after they placed runner-up in the conference.
"I really think we're ready to run well as a team," head coach Rich Ceronie said. "Our training has gone very well, and I believe we can have a good race."
Miami is led by the trio of sophomores Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Alter) and senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville). Kremer finished seventh at last year's meet and is one of the frontrunners for the individual crown this time around. After sitting out the 2000 season with an injury, Fryburg has returned to her form of two years ago, when she finished fourth at the MAC meet. Lundgren placed 29th in the conference last year and is shooting for a top-10 finish Saturday.
In order for Miami to be in the running for the championship, it will need strong performances from its No. 4 and 5 runners. Those spots are expected to be filled by any two of the following three runners: junior Kate Steffen (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and freshmen Sarah Bertolini (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Meredith Magsig (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore).
Sophomores Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), Jenny Korrison (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) round out the RedHawk entrants.
