Miami University's women's cross country team will travel to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships on Friday, Oct. 10. The meet will feature approximately 40 Ohio schools from all levels of intercollegiate competition, including 11 of the state's 12 Division I squads.
Scouting The Field: The All-Ohio Championships traditionally feature approximately 40 schools from all levels of intercollegiate athletics. Of the 12 Division I schools in Ohio, 11 will be in attendance, with Bowling Green being the exception. MAC-rivals Akron, Kent State and Toledo will join the RedHawks at the meet. Also competing is Ohio State, which is off to a fast start, winning both scored meets on their schedule so far.
Outlook: The course at the Theological Methodist School, where Ohio Wesleyan will host the meet, is a slow, hilly course. Not many times will dip into the sub-18:00 range, with just one runner cracking the 18:00 barrier in 2002.
Last Time Out: Miami finished second in the 18-team field at the Cardinal Cross Country Classic, finishing behind No. 34 Kentucky. The RedHawks finished ahead of Eastern Kentucky, who had edged the Red and White at the Queen City Classic on Sept. 19.
Individually, Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) continued her solid season with a second-place finish, her second of the season, behind an NCAA-qualifier from Kentucky. She ran a season-best time of 17:38, which was just two seconds off the lead pace, and almost 14 seconds ahead of third place. Her time also surpassed the course record heading into the meet. Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) also had a strong showing, posting her third top-six finish in as many meets this season.
Last Year At The All-Ohio: Last year's All-Ohio field featured 39 teams and 267 runners. The RedHawks fought their way to a third-place finish behind MAC-foes Toledo and Kent State. Andrea Kremer was Miami's top finisher, taking seventh. Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) and Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) will run this year after competing at last year's meet. Studer placed 14th, while Ardelean finished 31st as a freshman.
Miami has won the All-Ohio Championship meet, taking the top spot in 1993, while Molly Cullen is the only RedHawk to to win the event, finishing first in 1991. Furthermore, a MAC school has won the last 11 meets, and 20-of-22 overall. Ohio State is the lone non-MAC affiliate to win the meet title.
Handicapping The MAC: In the annual MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, Miami was selected to finish third at the conference championships in November, mirroring its finish from 2002. The top three picks in the poll mirror last year's MAC Championship finish, with Toledo and Ball State picked to finish first and second, respectively. Akron, Kent State and Central Michigan round out the top six.
The All-Ohio is the second meet on Miami's schedule to feature MAC schools this season. The first such meet was the Miami Invitational on Sept. 13. While the Red and White finished second at the meet, they finished ahead of all three MAC rivals. Included in the Miami Invite field was Ball State, who Miami beat 67-76 and finished third, as well as Akron and Buffalo.
