After particpating in the Notre Dame Invitational last weekend, the Miami women's cross country team heads to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, Oct. 7. The meet features 40 collegiate teams from the Buckeye State, and Miami is attempting to win its second All-Ohio title in the past three years. The RedHawks took home the top spot at the 2003 race and finished fourth last season.

THE TRIFECTA: Sophomore Jennie Stoll was the first Miami runner across the line at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30, the third-consecutive race that she was the top team finisher. At the 5K Notre Dame Golf Course, Stoll posted a 68th-place finish and clocked in at 18:06, marking the sixth time in her career she was the top Miami finisher. Last season, Stoll was the top RedHawk runner on three occasions--the Cedarville Invitational, Pre-NCAA Invitational and Great Lakes Regional.

TOP TIMES: Had she not set her personal-best time the previous week at the Cedarville Invitational, sophomore Sarah Henize would have ran her top collegiate time when she finished the 5K course in South Bend, Ind. in 18:37. Her time was 18 seconds better than her personal-best prior to the Cedarville Invitational (18:55), and her Notre Dame Invitational time was the second-best in her collegiate career.

ARDELEAN ARRIVES: Senior Kelly Ardelean saw her first action of the 2005 season at the Notre Dame Invitational after sitting out the first three races because of a leg injury. Ardelean posted a fifth-place team finish in her first race back as she clocked in at 19:21, and she should provide a nice boost to the distance corps midway through the 2005 season.

RELIABLE REDHAWKS: In each of the past three meets--the Miami Invitational, Cedarville Invitational and Notre Dame Invitational--the RedHawks top-four finishers have been identical. Stoll has been the first RedHawk across the finish line each time, while sophomore Sarah Henize has placed second on the team in each of the last three meets. Sophomore Carol Eckerly and senior Kristen Proach have finished either third or fourth on the team, with Eckerly being the third Miami runner across the line at the past two races.

REMEMBER WHEN: The 2003 season was the last time Miami won the team and individual titles at the All-Ohio. That year, the RedHawks finished in the top spot by defeating Ohio State, while Andrea Kremer was the individual champion.

LAST WEEK AT THE NOTRE DAME INVITE: Facing a 24-team field in which half the entrants were nationally ranked by the FinishLynx/WICCCA National Poll, the Miami University women's cross country team finished in 23rd place at the Notre Dame Invitational. Sophomore Jennie Stoll was the RedHawks top finisher as she posted a 68th-place finish (67th in terms of scoring finish), completing the 5K course in 18:06.

Stoll was the first Miami runner across the finish line for the third-consecutive race this season, and behind her, the next closest RedHawk was sophomore Sarah Henize, who finished in 107th place (18:37) in terms of scoring and 110th overall. After Henize, sophomore Carol Eckerly and Kristen Proach finished 126th (18:48--131st overall) and 142nd (19:06--152nd overall), respectively, in terms of a scoring finish.

The Michigan Wolverines (77 points), Illinois Fighting Illini (82) and Notre Dame Fighting Irish (91) were the top three finishers at the meet, while Miami (594) finished just behind the 22nd-place Florida Gators (560). The Akron Zips--who finished in 18th place (512)--were the only other Mid-American Conference school at the Notre Dame Invitational.

FLASHBACK TO THE ALL-OHIO: Last season at the All-Ohio Championship, Miami's bid to successfully defend the women's cross country title fell three places short as Kent State, Ohio State and Malone College all finished ahead of the RedHawks. Carol Eckerly was Miami's top finisher for the third time in four races, finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:32.9. Jennie Stoll finished 18th overall in 19:05.8, and behind her, Tricia Frisella (34th place--19:23.4) and Mia Fiegelist (37th--19:26.5) were the third and fourth finishers for Miami. Kristen Proach finished 42nd in 19:32.0 to complete Miami's scoring five.

ARE THEY CLAIRVOYANT?: After finishing sixth in the conference last season, the RedHawks were the No. 5 team in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Kent State was tabbed as the preseason favorite. Miami has the ability to finish higher than fifth if their trio of talented sophomores, Carol Eckerly, Jennie Stoll and Sarah Henize can continue to improve in their second season and if Miami can get consistently higher finishes from its group of upperclassmen

2004 RECAP: In 2004, Miami finished sixth at the Mid-American Conference Championship as Carol Eckerly (seventh place) and Jennie Stoll (19th place) paced the RedHawks. Miami began its season by winning its first three meets--the Dayton Flyer Invitational, the Miami Invitational and the Cedarville Invitational--and a young RedHawks' squad that featured six freshman placed 12th at the Great Lakes Regional. Stoll was the top finisher (12th) at the regional meet while Eckerly was the only Miami runner to earn MAC honors (second-team) by virtue of her seventh-place finish at the conference meet.
