RED(HOT)HAWKS: Miami's women's cross country team have set its sights on winning their second consecutive Miami Fall Classic and junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) will attempt to win her third straight Miami Fall Classic in Saturday's eighth running of the annual race. The RedHawks are coming off an impressive first-place finish at the Miami Invitational where Kremer took first with junior Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, OH/Kettering Alter) placing second and freshman Katy Pryor (New Castle, IN/New Castle) finishing third. The Red and White scored 22 points in the 6-team field and placed five runners in the top-ten.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: The RedHawks will see two MAC foes this weekend and face two schools that don't often frequent Oxford. Buffalo and Akron will make the trip down to Western Campus Course for a preview of the Mid-American Conference Championships that Miami hosts this year. Akron finished eighth last year in the 2001 MAC Championships and were rated seventh in the preseason by the league coaches. Akron and Buffalo both competed in the Tommy Evans Invitational on Sept. 7 in Akron, Ohio. Akron claimed first-place while Buffalo finished last. Buffalo placed tenth in the preseason MAC poll. IUPUI comes to Oxford predicted third in the preseason Mid-Continent Conference coaches poll. The only NAIA school in the meet is Cumberland College who is part of the Mid-South Conference. Cumberland's only action was at the Virginia Tech Invitational, where they finished third.
A WEEK TO REMEMBER: Kremer added more accolades to her illustrious Miami career after she won her second consecutive Miami Invitational on Sept. 4. Kremer was honored with her third MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. Kremer also earned the MAC Women's Runner of the Week honor. She has earned the runner of the week award four times in cross country and once in track and field.
