CLEVELAND - Miami University's women's cross country team was picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches poll. Toledo is the clear favorite to win the conference championship, as the Rockets garnered 124 points and all seven first-place votes.
The RedHawks received 93 of a possible 169 points. Kent State, defending champion Central Michigan, Akron and Ball State round out the preseason top five.
Last season, Miami finished 10th at the MAC Championships. This year's team is led by sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis/Bishop Chatard), who earned all-MAC and all-region honors last season, redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), a fourth-place finisher in the MAC two years ago, and senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville).
"Given the fact that we have three excellent frontrunners but our fourth and fifth positions are up in the air right now, the sixth-place prediction is justified, although I think we can surprise a lot of people by the end of the year," says head coach Dr. Richard Ceronie.
Miami opens the season Sept. 8 at the Miami Invitational.
