With a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, the Miami University women's cross country wrapped up its 2005 season. Highlights of the RedHawks' season included: finishing fifth at the MAC Championships; placing 13th at the regional meet ahead of conference rivals Kent State, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan; winning the Cedarville Invitational (Sept. 17); placing sophomore Jennie Stoll on the all-MAC second team; and finishing with two athletes, Stoll and sophomore Carol Eckerly, on the all-MAC academic team.

NCAA GREAT LAKES REGIONAL (Nov. 12): Led by sophomore Jennie Stoll's 55th-place finish, Miami placed 13th out of 32 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. A second-team all-MAC selection, Stoll tallied her seventh-consecutive top team finish as she clocked in at 22:42.9. After sitting out the season-opening Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge because of an injury, Stoll was the top Miami finisher in each of the team's final seven races. Miami placed a trio of sophomores among the meet's top 75 finishers as Stoll, Sarah Henize and Carol Eckerly were the top three RedHawk runners. Henize finished in 60th place with a time of 22:51.5, while Eckerly placed 74th, clocking in at 23:05.9. Rounding out Miami's scoring five were seniors Kristen Proach (188th; 23:46.1) and Kelly Ardelean (120th; 23:48.5).

SEVEN IN A ROW: Sophomore Jennie Stoll was the first Miami runner across the line at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Nov. 12, the seventh consecutive race this season that she has been the top team finisher. Her top finish marked the 10th time in her career she was the top Miami finisher, and dating back to last season's Great Lakes Regional, Stoll has been the top Miami finisher in each of the last eight races she has participated in--excluding the season opening Flyer 5K Challenge which she sat out because of an injury. During the 2004 season, Stoll was the top RedHawk runner on three occasions at the Cedarville Invitational, Pre-NCAA Invitational and Great Lakes Regional.

MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS (Oct. 29): Paced by sophomore Jennie Stoll's ninth-place finish, Miami finished fifth at the Mid-American Conference Championship in DeKalb, Ill. At Northern Illinois' Anderson Field, the RedHawks placed two runners in the top 20 and finished four spots behind the champion Akron Zips. Stoll was the only RedHawk to earn all-conference honors after she was the first Miami runner to finish the 5K course (18:06). Behind Stoll, sophomore Carol Eckerly was the only other Miami runner to finish in the meet's top 20 as she placed 19th (18:25). Sophomore Sarah Henize placed 26th overall (18:42), senior Kelly Ardelean placed 37th (18:55) and senior Kristen Proach placed 41st (18:57).The Akron Zips (41 points) finished as MAC Champions. The Toledo Rockets (64) and Ball State Cardinals (117) rounded out the top three finishers, while the Ohio Bobcats placed fourth (122), just ahead of the fifth-place RedHawks (132).

ALL-MAC ACCOLADES: With her ninth-place finish at the MAC Championship, sophomore Jennie Stoll was the only RedHawk to earn all-conference honors as she was named to the all-MAC second team. Stoll--an all-MAC performer during last year's indoor and outdoor track seasons--paced the RedHawks with her time of 18:06 at Northern Illinois' Anderson Field. Stoll's time tied for her season-best which she also set at the Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 30).

SHOWING IMPROVEMENT: As Miami improved on its 2004 finish and moved up from sixth to fifth at the MAC Championship, each of the RedHawks' top-five finishers also improved on their individual times from last year's conference meet. Sophomore Jennie Stoll knocked 50 seconds off her time (18:06 in 2005 versus 18:56 in 2004) en route to a ninth-place finish, while sophomore Carol Eckerly, the second Miami finisher, took five seconds (18:30 versus 18:25) off her time. Sophomore Sarah Henize knocked 46 seconds off her time in moving up from 43rd to 26th place, while seniors Kelly Ardelean and Kristen Proach improved by 56 and 10 seconds, respectively.

ALL-MAC ACADEMIC TEAM: The Miami women's cross country team placed two sophomores, Jennie Stoll and Carol Eckerly on the all-MAC academic team as the conference office announced the 18-member team. Stoll was Miami's top finisher in all seven races this season while holding a 3.64 GPA in early childhood education. For the season, Stoll won one individual title at the Cedarville Invitational (Sept. 17) -- a meet she has won each of the last two seasons -- and was named to the All-MAC Second Team after running a season-best 5K time of 18:06 at the conference meet. Eckerly, who holds a 3.77 GPA in quantitive economics and political science, battled back from a summer injury and did her best running at the end of the season, placing second on the team at both the MAC Championship (Oct. 29) and Great Lakes Regional (Nov. 12). Her top 5K time of the season (18:39) came at the Cedarville Invitational on Sept. 17 as she helped Miami defeat Ohio State for the team title.
