NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Junior Kelsey McHugh has been named to the All-Academic Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced today.
Student-athletes must hold a 3.25 grade-point average and finish in the top 10 percent of an NCAA regional meet to be eligible. McHugh was one of just 76 women to earn the honor.
An Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection in December, McHugh holds a 3.90 GPA in Zoology. She finished 23rd at the Great Lakes Regional, helping the RedHawks to a sixth-place finish.
"Kelsey bring great energy, perspective and understanding to our everyday practices and competitions," Head Coach Rita Arndt-Molis said. "She is someone who understands the value of opportunity.
"This award formally recognizes the fact that Kelsey is consistently committed to excellence. She is not only one of our best students and best athletes, but she is also one of our best leaders. She is exactly what a coach looks for in a student-athlete and I feel lucky to have inherited her as a part of this team."
