WATERLOO, Iowa -
Senior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) battled the flu and cold weather in Waterloo on Monday afternoon, as she finished 152nd at the NCAA Championships in her final collegiate cross country meet.
Suffering from the flu for most of the week, Kremer was able to finish the 6K course in a time of 21:33, 47 seconds off her NCAA Regional time which set a school record and netted herself a sixth-place regional finish. Also in the field from the MAC was Toledo's Chris Tye, who finished near Kremer, in 161st place, five seconds back. No teams from the conference qualified for the national meet.
"It's a shame," said head coach Rich Ceronie. "She's in the best condition of her career. It's an honor to be here and to qualify, but for her to get sick this week was a shame."
The race finished one of the most prolific cross country seasons in MAC history. Kremer won the MAC Championship, as she won four races on the season. Prior to the regional, her lowest finish was a pair of second-place showings, while she was named MAC Runner of the Week an unprecedented six times. She qualified for the NCAA meet by finishing first among runners from teams than did not qualify for the NCAA Championships.
