BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Led by junior Jennie Stoll's (Pewaukee, Wis.) 72nd-place finish, the Miami University women's cross country team finished 22nd in a 30-team field Saturday morning at the Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championship. Miami placed ahead of conference foe Central Michigan and local rivals Xavier and Dayton in its final meet of the 2006 season.

At the 6K Mel Brodt Cross Country Course, Stoll was the top Miami finisher for the fourth time this season, clocking in at 22:58. Her time was only six seconds off her season-best 6K pace (22:52), which she set at Pre-Nationals (Oct. 14). Stoll placed a little more than two minutes behind race winner Nicole Edwards of Michigan, who completed the course in 20:50.

Miami placed two additional runners in the meet's top 105 finishers, as junior Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio) and sophomore Erin McGowan (Perrysburg, Ohio) finished 100th and 104th, respectively. Fiegelist turned in a time of 23:26, while McGowan clocked in at 23:30.

Rounding out Miami's scoring five were sophomore Rebekah Hollander (Centerville, Ohio) and freshman Amanda Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.). In her second straight scoring finish, Hollander finished the 6K course in 23:49. Mirochna, in her second scoring finish of the season, turned in a time of 23:57.

The RedHawks' two additional runners in the meet were freshmen Jessica DeWitt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jenna Kruse (Chatham, Ill.), and they placed 137th (24:03) and 166th (24:51), respectively.

Michigan State (63 points) and Wisconsin (66) earned the region's two automatic bids to the NCAA Championship, while Michigan (89), Butler (111) and Notre Dame (116) rounded out the top five schools.

In addition to placing in front of Central Michigan, Xavier and Dayton, 22nd-place Miami (532) also topped Oakland, Evansville, IUPUI, Youngstown State and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

With their cross country season complete, Miami's distance runners are off until the indoor track and field season begins. Miami's indoor season opener is slated for Dec. 2 when it travels to the Findlay Open.
