YPSILANTI, Mich. - After a program-worst 10th-place finish at last year's Mid-American Conference Women's Cross Country Championship, Miami's women's cross country team set out on a mission to redeem itself this season, and it came up big Saturday, placing in a tie for fourth at the MAC meet in Ypsilanti, Mich. It is the 12th time in Miami's 18 years in the MAC it has finished in the top four.

For the first time since she arrived in Oxford, sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) was not the RedHawks' top finisher in a cross country race. Instead, it was redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Alter), who edged Kremer at the finish line, coming in with a time of 18:21.9, while Kremer finished in 18:22.0. Fryburg placed fifth in the race, Kremer sixth.

Both women earned first-team all-MAC honors. It was the second time in their careers they were named to the all-MAC team, as Fryburg received first-team accolades as a freshman in 1999 and Kremer made second-team all-conference last year.

Senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) improved 20 spots from last year, taking ninth with a time of 18:33.5. She landed on the all-MAC second team, marking the first time in her career she received such an honor.

The next RedHawk finisher was sophomore Kate Steffen (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), who came across in 19:40.0, good for 47th. Freshman Sarah Bertolini (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) took 58th in a time of 19:50.7. She was followed closely by sophomore Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), who came in 61st with a 19:52.3 clocking.

Sophomore Jenny Korrison (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), freshman Meredith Magsig (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore) and sophomore Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) finished 72nd (20:07.0), 83rd (20:23.5) and 93rd (20:47.7), respectively.

Toledo won a tight team race with 71 points, just ahead of Ball State (79 points) and Kent State (82). Miami and Central Michigan each had 120 points. The Rockets' Briana Shook easily won the individual title in a time of 17:49.9, more than 15 seconds ahead of Ball State's Kathryn Nowak.

Miami has this weekend off to prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship, held Nov. 10 in Terre Haute, Ind.
