TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Facing its best competition yet this season, the Miami women's cross country team finished 25th of 36 teams at the Pre-NCAA Invitational's White race, hosted by Indiana State on Saturday morning.
The race included many of the largest schools from all over the nation. Colorado won the White section with 94 points, while Michigan finished second with 109 points and Arizona State accrued 187 points to round out the top three. Miami totaled 605 points as Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) was the top Miami finisher in 58th place. Stoll finished the 6K course in 21:41.8 in the first race of the season at that distance. The NCAA Regional and Championship races will also measure 6,000 meters.
Stoll has now finished first among her teammates in two of Miami's five races. The top finisher the other three times, Carol Eckerly (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) finished four spots behind in 62nd in 21:46.6. Tricia Frisella (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) finished 157th in 22:47.0, Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio/Bucyrus) was 159th 22:48.6, and Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) was 169th in 22:55.4 to complete Miami's five scorers.
Kristen Proach (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 193rd in 23:12.7 and Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) took 203rd in 23:27.0 to round out Miami's participants.
The MAC Championship is next on the horizon for the RedHawks. The race takes place Oct. 30 and is hosted by Toledo.
