TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Competing in the open race at the 2006 Pre-National meet, the Miami University women's cross country team placed eighth in a 13-team field Saturday afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Course. Junior Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio) was the top Miamian in the RedHawks' first 6K race of the season, finishing 66th overall in a field with 226 runners.
Fiegelist placed 66th overall and 21st in terms of a scoring finish, turning in a time of 22:35. It was the first top team finish of Fiegelist's career, and she is the fourth different runner to pace Miami in a race this season.
Freshman Kelsey McHugh (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and junior Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis.) were the next two Miami finishers, each finishing within 17 seconds of Fiegelist. McHugh finished 79th overall (24th for a scoring finish) with a time of 22:41, while Stoll placed 97th (33rd scoring) in 22:52.
Rounding out Miami's scoring five were sophomore Erin McGowan (Perrysburg, Ohio) and freshman Amanda Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.), who finished 108th overall (39th scoring; 22:56) and 135th overall (50th scoring; 23:17).
Miami finished with 167 team points, defeating Boise State, Northwestern, Texas Pan-American, Morehead State and IUPUI. Dartmouth won the team title in the open race with 67 points.
The Pre-National meet was Miami's final tune-up prior to the Mid-American Conference Championship. The University at Buffalo hosts the MAC Championship two weeks from today on Oct. 28.
