GREENVILLE, S.C. - With its three best runners placing in the top 50, Miami's women's cross country team finished 15th out of 37 schools in the 6,000-meter Silver race Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Pre-NCAA Invitational, hosted by Furman and run on the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. The RedHawks' final score of 460 put them five spots ahead of Florida State (20th place, 522 points), who received a vote in the Oct. 8 national poll, and eight spots ahead of No. 25 Baylor (23rd, 609).

The Miami charge was once again led by sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), who finished 18th out of 246 competitors in a time of 21:27. Redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Alter) keeps making strides in her comeback effort as she placed 40th in 22:00. Close behind was senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), whose 22:08 clocking landed her in 46th.

Miami's downfall this season has been the gap between its third and fourth runners, and Saturday was no different. The next finisher for the RedHawks after Lundgren was sophomore Kate Steffen (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) in 175th (23:56). Freshman Sarah Bertolini (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) concluded the Miami scorers with a 181st-place showing, crossing the finish line in 24:02.

Freshman Meredith Magsig (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore) and sophomore Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) finished 206th (24:41) and 218th (24:56), respectively.

Stanford won the Silver race, barely squeaking by Brigham Young, 72-74, while Washington's Sabrina Monro was the top individual finisher, completing the course in 20:26. The only other Mid-American American conference team in the race, Toledo, finished 13th with a score of 422.

Miami next competes at the Mid-American Conference Championship at Ypsilanti, Mich. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
