DELAWARE, Ohio - Miami's bid to defend successfully the women's cross country title at the All-Ohio Championships fell three places short on Friday afternoon, as Kent State, Ohio State and Malone College finished ahead of the RedHawks in the race hosted by Ohio Wesleyan College in Delaware, Ohio.

Carol Eckerly (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) was Miami's top finisher for the third time in four races, finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:32.9, 24 seconds behind race winner Ruth Limo of Cincinnati. Limo also bested Eckerly at the Dayton Invitational on Sept. 4, as the Bearcat and RedHawk runners finished first and second, respectively, in that race.

Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee), the winner of the Cedarville Invitational on Sept. 18, Miami's last race before Friday's competition, finished 18th overall in 19:05.8. Tricia Frisella (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) was the third Miamian across the finish line, taking 34th place in 19:23.4. Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) took 37th in 19:26.5, while Kristen Proach (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 42nd in 19:32.0 to complete Miami's scoring five.

Miami's 138 points fell just behind Malone's 137 in a battle for third place, while Kent State edged out Ohio State 113-115 for the first two spots. The RedHawks had won their first three races of the season at Dayton, the Miami Invitational, and at Cedarville before falling short of a fourth-consecutive win on Friday.

Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) finished 49th in 19:39.8 and Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio/Bucyrus) finished 76th in 20:06.9 to round out Miami's participants.

The Red and White will see its toughest competition of the season to date on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Pre-NCAA Invitational hosted by Indiana State at the site of November's NCAA Championships.
