DELAWARE, Ohio - In the battle for Buckeye State supremacy, the Miami women's cross country team topped two schools from the Mid-American Conference, Ohio University and Kent State, but came up short of winning their second team title in three years as they finished fifth at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday afternoon. The RedHawks finished four spots behind the first-place Akron Zips as only one runner, sophomore Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee), finished among the top 20 runners on the 5K Course at Methodist Theological Seminary.

Stoll was the top Miami finisher for the fourth-consecutive race as she finished fifth, clocking in at 18:28. Fellow sophomore Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio/Bucyrus) was the second RedHawk across the line and the only other Miami runner in the top 25 as she posted a 21st-place finish with a time of 19:13.

Behind Henize, senior Kristen Proach (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) and sophomore Carol Eckerly (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) finished 41st and 44th, respectively. Proach finished the course in 19:32 while Eckerly was four seconds off her pace, clocking in at 19:36. Senior Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) was the fifth Miami finisher as she posted a 61st-place finish (19:52).

The RedHawks will race again next week when they head to the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 15. It will be their final tune-up prior to the MAC Championship in DeKalb, Ill., on Oct. 29.
