The Miami women's cross country team is continuing to make great strides in creating a name for themselves in the national cross country spotlight. After a 20th place finish last year, the RedHawks finished tied for ninth at the 17th annual running of the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) moved up three spots from last year to place 11th with a time of 21:30.2. Junior Kristen Fryburg (Dayton, OH/Kettering Alter) was the 33rd runner to cross the finish line in a time of 22:00.5. The next Red and White finisher was freshman Katy Pryor (New Castle, IN/New Castle) who crossed the finish line in 22:24.6 to place 53rd. Freshman Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), sophomore Sarah Bertolini (Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas, and junior Kylee Studer (Edgerton, OH/Edgerton) finished within five seconds of each other to place 69th, 71st, and 73rd. Their times were 22:42.3, 22:45.3 and 22:47.5, respectively.
The race featured 22 teams and 199 runners, including seven nationally ranked teams. Michigan State University won the race, after finishing fifth during last year's event. Spartan junior Michelle Carson won the race with a time of 20:41.6.
