OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's women's cross country team won the sixth annual Miami Fall Classic and sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) took the individual crown for the second year in a row.
The RedHawk women cruised to an easy victory, beating runner-up Pittsburgh, 46-71, to win their first Fall Classic title.
Kremer's time of 21:33 broke the course record of 22:34, which she set at last year's Fall Classic. She has now won two consecutive races after taking the top spot at the Miami Invitational on Sept. 8.
"Her time is at a national-caliber level," says head coach Dr. Richard Ceronie. "The best part is that it was a pretty easy run for her. She said afterwards that she shut it down and jogged it in."
Sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) claimed third place with a 22:16 clocking while senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) finished sixth in a time of 22:42. Sophomore Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) came in 17th, with freshman Sarah Bertolini (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) following close behind in 19th.
Morehead State's Karen Lutes (second), West Virginia's Merissa Sexsmith (fourth) and Pittsburgh's Amanda Schmidt (fifth) comprised the rest of the top five.
Women's Team Results 1. Miami 46 2. Pittsburgh 71 3. West Virginia 82 4. Marshall 87 5. Ohio State 112 6. Eastern Kentucky 129 7. Morehead State 156
