XENIA, Ohio - Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) became the second rookie to lead the Miami women's cross country squad across the tape this season as she was the overall winner as well in the Cedarville Invitational on Saturday morning at John Bryan State Park north of Xenia, Ohio. As a team, Miami totaled 28 points, well ahead of runner-up Roberts Wesleyan (73) as the squad bested atotal of 13 schools and went three-for-three in race wins this season.
Stoll's time of 17:53.96 was the fastest collegiate time at the state park course since the current trail was established two years ago.
Carol Eckerly (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek), the top RedHawk in Miami's first two races this year, finished third overall in 18:04.70, little more than 10 seconds behind Stoll and two seconds behind Cedarville's Samantha Maat, who finished second. The RedHawks placed all five scorers in the top 10, enabling the wide margin of victory. Tricia Frisella (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) finished sixth overall in 18:52.23, while Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio/Bucyrus) clocked in eighth in 18:55.42 and Kristen Proach (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 10th in 18:56.31. It was the second race of the three this season in which Miami's five scorers were all first-year runners.
Rounding out Miami's participants were Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) in 11th overall (18:58.17), Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) in 14th (19:14.19), Abbey Reeser (Circleville, Ohio/Circleville) in 23rd (19:39.86), Leslie McCue (Braidwood, Ill./Reed-Custer) in 53rd (20:46.22) and Jen Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) in 90th (22:24.13).
Miami's cross country squad has two weekends off before its next race, the All-Ohio Championships on Oct. 8 at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.
