YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio. - It was a bit of déjà vu at the Cedarville/Friendship Invitational on Saturday afternoon as, for the second-consecutive year, sophomore Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished as the individual champion and the Miami University women's cross country team took home the team title at the 13-team race. As was the case at John Bryan State Park in 2004, Stoll and Cedarville's Samanth Maat finished in the top two spots while Miami was the team champion with four runners placing in the meet's top ten.
Stoll, who set the course record (17:53) at the Cedarville Invitational last season, finished the race in 18:07, just one second ahead of Maat. Behind her, sophomores Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio, Bucyrus) and Carol Eckerly (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) placed fifth (18:26) and sixth (18:39), respectively. Senior Kristen Proach (Canton, Ohio/St. Aquinas) was the other RedHawk to finish in the top 10 as she came in ninth (18:52).
Miami (45 points) finished six points ahead of second-place finisher Ohio State (51 points). Behind the top two, host Cedarville University (67 points), Denison University (103 points) and Ohio Northern (145 points) rounded out the top five schools.
The RedHawks' victory at the Cedarville Invitational was their first team title of the 2005 season. They will work to build off the momentum from their win at their next meet, the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Sept. 30.
