OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind.) took second to pace Miami University's women's cross country team to a second place finish, behind nationally-ranked Michigan, at the Miami Invitational, Saturday morning, at Miami's Western Campus.

Kremer was leading the race down the stretch, but a late burst by Michigan's Jessie Allen-Young was too much to overcome. Kremer finished with a time of 17:39.67, just 0.76 seconds behind Yound, to pace the RedHawks at the meet.

Seniors Kristin Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) were the next to finish for Miami. Wrede took fifth place in 17:57.00 and Studer, who won the Flyer Challenge two weeks ago, finished 16th in 18:47.48.

Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) and Sophia Afridi (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Country Day), both sophomores, rounded out the scoring for the RedHawks. Ardelean placed 22nd, while Afridi finished in 27th place in her collegiate cross country debut. In the past, Afridi has handled middle distance duties for the Miami track team.

Behind Michigan (33) and Miami (67) were fellow MAC teams Ball State (76), Akron (82) and Buffalo (101). Gettysburg and Cumberland Colleges placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

The RedHawks will return to action net Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Queen City Classic. The meet is hosted by the University of Cincinnati. Miami and the Bearcats were both in the field at the Flyer 5K Challenge, with UC finishing second, and the Red and White not scoring.
