REDHAWKS EARN BYE WITH WIN IN REGULAR-SEASON CONFERENCE FINALE: After a loss to No. 19 Ohio on Friday, Nov. 10, Miami needed one win to clinch a bye in the first-round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Miami earned its bye in decisive fashion by defeating Kent State in three games, 30-21, 30-27, 30-25, to garner the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The RedHawks play No. 5 seed Western Michigan at the SeaGate Centre on Friday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
ABOUT THE BRONCOS: Western Michigan heads into the Mid-American Conference Tournament on a five-match winning streak, with its latest win in three games in the MAC Tournament First Round against No. 12 seed Akron on Tuesday. The Broncos have the players averaging more than 3.00 kpg: Kathryn Babcock (3.94), Katie Eberling (3.44) and Ashley Vogl (3.25). Caitlin Strimel leads the team in digs, averaging 5.15 dpg, while Jenifer Sulewski leads the team in assists, averaging 13.09 apg.
THE SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: Western Michigan owns a 26-16 lead in the all-time series. Although Miami has won three of the last four meetings, including a four-game win in Kalamazoo earlier this season, the Broncos have won seven of the last 10 meetings. Miami faces Western Michigan in MAC Tournament action for just the third time in program history and is 0-2 against the Broncos in MAC Tourney action, falling five games in the semifinals of the 1982 and 1988 MAC Tournaments.
MIAMI VERSUS THE TOURNAMENT FIELD: Miami is a combined 8-11 in MAC Tournament play against the tournament field. The RedHawks are 2-0 against Eastern Michigan, 2-2 against Bowling Green, 1-2 versus Northern Illinois, 3-5 against Ball State and 0-2 against Western Michigan. Miami has never face Ohio or Toledo in MAC Tournament play.
REIHMAN CLOSING IN ON 1,000 KILLS: Heading into the MAC Tournament, junior middle hitter Carli Reihman is closing in on becoming the 15th Miami player to reach 1,000 digs for her career. With three guaranteed matches remaining, Reihman needs 32 kills to reach the 1,000 kill plateau and could eclipse the mark this season.
Climbing The Charts: Sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder is climbing the RedHawks' single-season charts. Schroeder's current 4.35 kills per game average would rank first, eclipsing the previous average of 4.26 kills per game by Kathy Tepe in 1985. Schroeder also owns 462 kills this season, which ties for third on Miami's single-season list and is 66 away from breaking Miami's single-season record of 527 kills by Angel Miller in 1991. Schroeder became the first player in a decade to move onto Miami's single-season kill chart.
MAC-NIFICENT: Averaging 4.91 kills per game to rank third among MAC statistical leaders in conference-only matches and hitting .328 to rank third in the MAC, sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder is the only player to rank among the top three in both categories. Schroeder also ranks third in points per game (5.62). Freshman setter Andrea Atteberry ranks eighth in assists (11.85), and sophomore libero Melissa Zenz ranks tenth in digs (4.64) and seventh in service aces (0.39). Schroeder anchors a Miami offensive attack that ranks sixth in the conference in kpg (15.45) and is third in the MAC in opponent digs with 16.14.
Roaring 20s: Fourteen times this season Miami has had players amass 20 or more kills in a match, including three matches where two players have reached the 20-kill mark. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder leads the team with 10 20-plus kill performances over 29 matches this season, including an impressive 24-kill outing in a four-game victory over Kent State on Oct. 27. Junior middle hitter Carli Reihman also posted 24 kills, which are the most by a RedHawk this season.

Zenz Reaches 1,000 Career Digs: Behind a 30-dig effort in a four-game win against Kent State on Friday, Oct. 27, sophomore libero Melissa Zenz notched her 1,000th career dig. It also was the first 30-dig effort by a RedHawk since Tara Buroker collected 34 against Akron on Nov. 3, 2002.
