OXFORD, Ohio -- Averaging an impressive 6.14 kills per game last weekend, including a career-high 24 kills in a four-game win against Kent State, Miami University sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) seized her second Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award this season and the fourth of her career, the conference office announced on Monday.
Schroeder continued her dominating performances, posting 24 kills to lead all players against the Golden Flashes, marking her eighth 20-kill performance of the season and the ninth of her career. The 24 kills also tie for the most kills in a match by a RedHawk this season and is the most kills in a four-game match by a Miami player in 2006. Additionally, Schroeder hit a solid .333 and served up one ace against the Golden Flashes to help Miami record its eighth straight win, the most consecutive wins by a Miami team since 1998. Defensively, she averaged a stellar 4.50 digs per game against Kent State, amassing 18 digs, and also knocked down a block assist.
Against the No. 22 Ohio Bobcats, Schroeder led all players with 19 kills--averaging 6.33 kpg--while hitting .385. She also served up two aces against the Bobcats, while knocking down a solo block and averaging a solid 3.00 dpg.
For the week, in addition to her superior 6.14 kpg, Schroeder averaged 3.86 dpg and hit .356. This season, Schroeder is averaging 4.34 kpg, which would set a Miami single-season record, currently eclipsing the previous average of 4.26. Schroeder is averaging 5.07 kills per game to rank third among MAC statistical leaders in conference-only matches and hitting .346 to rank fifth in the MAC. She is one of just two players to rank among the top five in both categories and also ranks third in points per game (5.85).
