REDHAWKS TRAVEL TO FACE FALCONS AND HUSKIES: Miami heads to Bowling Green and Northern Illinois for two crucial Mid-American Conference matches this week. The RedHawks play a mid-week tilt at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Bowling Green, before traveling to Northern Illinois for a 7 p.m. (CT) showdown on Saturday, Oct. 27. Miami is currently on a nine-game winning streak, the longest winning streak since the 1997 Miami team won 10 straight, while Bowling Green has won seven consecutive matches. Miami's only loss in MAC play came at the hands of the Falcons.
TIGHT RACE: Heading into this week's play, the race for the Mid-American Conference crown has become tight. Four teams are separated by only one game, led by the 9-1 RedHawks and the 9-1 Bobcats. Sitting one game behind Miami and Ohio is an 8-2 Kent State squad and an 8-2 Bowling Green team. Over the next two weeks, each of the four teams will play the other three conteners starting with Miami's match against Bowling Green on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
REDHAWK BLOCK: One of the key's to Miami's success during its nine-match winning streak has been the RedHawk Block. Over the first 10 games of the season, Miami averaged 1.89 blocks per game compared to 2.31 bpg from its opponents and nobody on the Miami squad averaged over 1.00 bpg. Over the past nine games, Miami has outblocked its opponents 2.65 bpg to 1.79 bpg. During the stretch, senior middle hitter Carli Reihman and freshman middle hitter Michele Metzler have emerged to provide the RedHawks a defensive presence at the net. Over the past nine matches, Metzler averages 1.18 bpg, while Reihman averages 1.12 bpg.

RISE UP: Since the injury of junior outside hitter Emily Schroeder, sophomore middle hitter Megan Griffin has stepped up her game and provided a strong offensive and defensive presence for Miami. Since Griffin was inserted in the starting lineup on Sept. 28, she has averaged a team-best 3.52 kpg and has collected double-digit kills in all eight contests.
WEEKEND IN REVIEW: With wins over Ball State and Toledo, Miami has gone 5-0 against the MAC West this season and the RedHawks have won nine consecutive matches. Four players collected double-digit kills in the win over Ball State led by senior outside hitter Jeanna Staun's 12 kills. Senior middle hitter Carli Reihman added 11 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Megan Griffin and freshman middle hitter Michele Metzler collected 10 kills apiece. The RedHawks held the Cardinals to a .047 hitting percentage and Miami outblocked Ball State 13 to nine. Against Toledo, Metzler and Griffin led the RedHawks with 10 kills apiece and the RedHawks produced 11 blocks. For the weekend, Metzler tallied 16 total blocks.
MIAMI EARNS VOTES IN AVCA POLL: In the Oct. 22 release of the AVCA Coaches Poll, Miami found itself receiving four total points in the poll, making its fourth appearance on the poll this season. Miami has played three teams who are nationally ranked this season (No. 20 Michigan, No. 19 Ohio and No. 18 Colorado State), and the RedHawks host No. 19 Ohio on Nov. 3 and No. 17 Dayton on Nov. 24.
MAC-ing it: Through Oct. 22, Miami has five players who rank among Mid-American Conference statistical leaders in overall matches played and conference matches. As a team, the RedHawks rank in the top five in four MAC statistical categories:

ABOUT THE FALCONS: Miami travels to Bowling Green for a mid-week tilt that will be a match of streaks. The RedHawks have won nine in a row, while the Falcons have posted seven consecutive victories. Miami's last lost came against Bowling Green on Sept. 20. Kendra Halm is having a solid year offensively and defensively as she ranks fourth in the MAC in hitting percentage (.313) and she ranks first in the conference in blocks (1.19).
THE SERIES WITH BOWLING GREEN: Miami owns a 36-21 lead in the all-time series over Bowling Green but the Falcons have had the RedHawks' number lately taking four in a row over Miami. The last Miami win was a 3-0 win on Sept. 28, 2005 in Anderson Arena. The Falcons and RedHawks played a lengthy five-game match in their first meeting of the season and the Falcons defeated Miami 15-9 in the fifth and deciding game.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES: Northern Illinois heads into the week with a 11-13 overall record and a 5-5 MAC record. Four Husky players average over 3.00 kpg led by Dani D'Ambrose, who puts down an average of 4.07 kpg. Defensivey, Maddie Hughes averages 4.66 digs per game. The Huskies lost a five-game match against Kent State on Friday, before dropping a match to Ohio in four games. The Huskies and the RedHawks are the only teams to take a game off of Ohio in MAC action this season.
THE SERIES WITH NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Miami and Northern Illinois will square off for the first time this season when Miami invades DeKalb, Ill. on Oct. 27. The all-time series is tied, 14-14, with the last eight decisions going Northern Illinois' way. The last Miami win in the series came on Oct. 22, 1999 and the last Miami win in DeKalb came in a three-game sweep on Sept. 25, 1999.
