Oxford, Ohio - Head Volleyball Coach Carolyn Condit announced Thursday that five players will serve as co-captains for this upcoming season. They include senior outside hitter Emily Schroeder, senior libero Melissa Zenz, senior middle hitter Catherine Wolfe, junior outside hitter Maria Leahy and junior middle hitter Megan Griffin.
Schroeder earned second team All-MAC honors last season despite missing a month due to injury. She averaged a team high 3.15 kills per game. Zenz needs only 43 digs to become the 11th Redhawk to record 1,000 for her career. Wolfe, who attended the same high school (Ursuline Academy) as Zenz, transferred to the team last season from Akron and appeared in seven games, averaging 1.00 kills per match. Leahy averaged 2.10 digs per game last season and had a career high 21 digs against Eastern Michigan on October 12. Griffin was a first team All-MAC selection as well as an academic All-MAC selection. She led the team during conference play in both total kills (3.07) and total kills (181).
"I am impressed with our leadership this season and believe there is strength in numbers." said Condit. "Our five co-captains each have something unique to offer our team but collectively have demonstrated hard work, commitment and character when it counts."
Miami opens the 2008 season when they host the Best Western Miami Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30. The RedHawks will play Saint Louis at 7 p.m. on Friday and then take on the Billikens again on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. before facing Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.
