Oxford, Ohio - After a Mid-American Conference Tournament championship a season ago, the 2008 Miami University volleyball team has been tabbed as the preseason favorite in the MAC East Division by the league's coaches.

Miami and Western Michigan, the preseason favorite in the MAC West Division, were joined by last season's MAC East regular-season champion, Ohio, as the favorites to win the 2008 MAC Tournament.

RedHawk head coach Carolyn Condit, the 2007 MAC Coach of the Year, returns a group of accomplished players highlighted by 2007 MAC Freshman of the Year Michele Metzler, two-time all-MAC performer Emily Schroeder, 2007 First-Team All-MAC selection Megan Griffin, 2007 Second-Team All-MAC selection Andrea Atteberry and 2007 MAC All-Tournament Team honoree Alex Ratcliff.

The RedHawks and Bobcats were followed by Kent State, Bowling Green, Akron and Buffalo in the MAC East preseason poll. Ball State was picked to finish second in the MAC West, followed by Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Toledo.

Miami opens the 2008 season when they host the Best Western Miami Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30. The RedHawks will play Saint Louis at 7 p.m. on Friday and then take on the Billikens again on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. before facing Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.

After three weekend tournaments on the road and a home game against Marshall on Sept. 16, the RedHawks open MAC play when they host Bowling Green on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall.
