This is the final installment in a five-part series previewing the 2008 Miami University volleyball season. The RedHawks begin their 2008 campaign at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29 versus Saint Louis at Millett Hall in the opening match of the 2008 Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Classic.

LIBEROS

Senior Melissa Zenz looks to anchor the libero position for Miami in 2008 as she enters her third season with the program after transferring from Cincinnati following her freshman year. In her first season at Miami in 2006, Zenz broke the Miami single-season digs record with 507 digs. Her backcourt role was very significant in Miami's recent championship and she hopes to make her final season at Miami one to remember.

"Melissa has the platform strength to be one of the best passers and defensive players in the conference," Condit said. "It would be nice for her to earn All-MAC recognition for her performances this year and with continued work in certain areas of her game, I believe this can happen."

Joining Zenz in the backcourt is one of the team's best athletes, Jillian Johns. Johns saw limited time on the court in her first season while adjusting to the speed of the college game, however, she utilized her spring season to improve her skills and confidence.

"I think we are going to see a different Jillian Johns this fall. She is one of our finest athletes and has magnificent foot speed," Condit said. "Whether she earns the libero shirt or improves our backcourt as a defensive specialist, we will be counting on Jill in her sophomore year to make our backcourt even more productive this season."
