CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference Office announced its All-Academic Volleyball Team on Tuesday afternoon. The Miami RedHawks put two players on the team in senior outside hitter Megan Griffin (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior middle hitter Michele Metzler (Lawrenceburg, Ind.).

For Griffin it was her third consecutive year earning a spot on the All-Academic team. That is the most times a student-athlete can earn this award, as freshmen are not eligible. She is one of only six MAC volleyball players all-time to earn a spot on the team for three consecutive years. Griffin was named to Second Team All-MAC this season after being named to the first team each of the previous two years. She had 237 kills in 2009, an average of 2.14 per set. With 1,002 career kills, she is the 18th player in Miami history to reach the 1,000 kill mark. Griffin previously earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 9 after victories over Bowling Green and Western Michigan where she hit .659 and recorded 29 kills.

This is the first All-Academic honor for Metzler. She was previously named to the All-MAC second-team in November. Metzler was also MAC Freshman of the Year in 2007. She had 254 kills on the year and led the team with a .303 hitting percentage). Metzler turned into a top defensive threat as she led the team in blocks with 104 in 2009 (12 solo and 92 assisted). She was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 9 after recording 14 digs in matches against Bowling Green and Western Michigan that weekend.

Miami finished the season 17-14 overall and 11-5 in the MAC. The RedHawks reached the semifinals of the MAC Tournament for the third consecutive year.
