Final Stats

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Miami RedHawks advanced to the Mid-American Conference Semifinals Friday with a workmanlike 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) victory over Bowling Green in the quarterfinals. The RedHawks improve to 17-12 on the season, while the Falcons finish the year at 13-20. Miami, the three seed in the tournament, will take on second seed Western Michigan, a 3-0 winner over Buffalo in the quarterfinals, Saturday at 7 p.m.

Bowling Green jumped to an early 6-3 lead in set one. As would become frequent in the match, a Miami rally was started by a Michele Metzler assisted block. That block sparked a 10-4 run that put the RedHawks up, 13-10. The Falcons rallied to eventually tie the set at 21. From there, a kill by Hallie Hanks and two kills from Megan Griffin gave Miami a 24-21 advantage. After a service error, a BG attack error gave the RedHawks a 25-22 set one victory.

Once again Miami fell behind to begin the second set. This time Bowling Green went ahead 14-8. Two kills from Maria Leahy were part of an 8-2 run that tied the score at 16. The Falcons went ahead again, 21-17, but back-to-back blocks by Metzler pulled the RedHawks to within two at 19-21. Bowling Green score the next point, but a kill from Hanks and two more Miami blocks tied the score at 22. With the score tied at 23, the Falcons committed a service error and the RedHawks won the set off yet another block, this time by Hanks and Griffin.

Tied at 12 in the third set, a kill from Amy Raseman and a service ace by Metzler gave the RedHawks a 14-12 advantage. The Falcons went on a 6-3 run to take an 18-17 lead, but two Bowling Green attack errors, followed by an Andrea Atteberry service ace gave the RedHawks the lead at 20-18. The Falcons had one last rally in them, tying the score at 20 off two Miami errors. However, Bowling Green committed a service error and an attack error on the next two points. That was followed by two Metzler kills and one last Metzler block to give the RedHawks a 25-20 win.

Metzler finished with eight kills and seven block assists. Leahy and Hanks also had eight kills apiece. Leahy led the team with 20 digs, while Lisa Treadway had 15 digs. Atteberry recorded 30 assists on the night. Griffin has six kills, and is seven short of becoming the 18th Miami RedHawk to reach 1,000 for her career.
