OXFORD, Ohio - Despite winning game one over No. 16 Ohio, Miami University's volleyball team dropped a four-game match to the Bobcats in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday night. Miami (14-9; 11-3 MAC) lost only its third MAC game of the season, while Ohio improved to 20-5 and 12-1 in MAC action.

Two kills by junior outside hitter Alex Ratcliff, a service ace by sophomore setter Andrea Atteberry and three Ohio errors catapulted the RedHawks to a 6-1 lead in game one. After Ohio closed within one point, 13-12, kills by Ratcliff and freshman middle hitter Michele Metzler coupled with a Bobcat attack error, increased Miami's lead to 16-12. Miami and Ohio traded side outs for the rest of the game and a kill by Metzler cemented a 30-26 game-one win for the RedHawks. Sophomore Megan Griffin led the RedHawks with five kills in the first game.

Ohio came out strong at the start of game two as four blocks by Melissa Griffin helped the Bobcats attain an 8-2 lead. A kill by Ratcliff and two Bobcat errors brought Miami within three points, 8-11, but a series of mini runs by Ohio put the RedHawks in an eight-point hole, 13-21. A kill and a service ace by junior outside hitter Emily Schroeder and a block by senior middle hitter Carli Reihman and Griffin led a Miami rally as the RedHawks closed within one point, 23-24, forcing an Ohio timeout. Despite closing within one point on four occasions, with the last being 28-29, the RedHawks could not pull out the game two win as the Bobcats won, 30-28.

The RedHawks and Bobcats traded points until a kill by Melissa Griffin and a service ace by Stephanie Blackburn gave Ohio a 21-18 lead in game three. After an Ohio service error brought the RedHawks within two points, 20-22, three kills by Ohio extended the Bobcat lead to five points, 25-20. Miami closed within three points, 24-27, but Ohio pulled away and won game three, 30-25.

Tied at 7-7 in game four, Ohio rallied off six consecutive points giving the Bobcats a 13-7 lead. Still down by six points, 11-17, a kill by Atteberry and three kills by Ratcliff brought the RedHawks within two points, 15-17. That would be as close as the RedHawks got as Ohio won the fourth game, and the match, 30-24.

Griffin led the RedHawks with 16 kills, while junior libero Melissa Zenz compiled 23 digs for Miami.

Melissa Griffin led the Bobcats with 18 kills and 11 total blocks.

Miami hits the road for its final two MAC games of the season against Akron and Buffalo. The RedHawks play at 7 p.m. against Akron on Friday, Nov. 9 and at 7 p.m. versus Buffalo at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
