Final Stats

INDIANAPOLIS – After winning the first set, the Miami University volleyball team dropped the final three sets to fall to Western Kentucky in its second game at the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational. The RedHawks are now 1-4 on the season, while the Lady Toppers improve to 3-3.

Quickly falling behind 4-1 in the first set, Miami rallied behind a Michele Metzler kill and a service ace. That keyed a 14-8 run that put the RedHawks in front 15-12. The teams traded points throughout the remainder of the set. Western Kentucky got as close as 22-23, but a kill from Hallie Hanks and a service ace from Lisa Treadway closed out a 25-22 win.

The RedHawks struggled with getting their kills down the remainder of the match. After hitting .256 in the first set, they hit under .100 in each of the final three sets. As a result, the Lady Toppers took those sets 25-12, 25-9 and 25-13.

Metzler led Miami with nine kills. Treadway had 10 digs and Amy Kendall led with 21 assists.

The RedHawks conclude play at the Hampton Inn Invitational Sunday when they play the host IUPUI at 3 p.m.
