Volunteer Graduate Assistant

With a vast array of coaching experience and a playing stint on the international level, Sam Shweisky enters his second season as a volunteer graduate assistant.

In addition to his time with the RedHawks last year, Shweisky served as the head coach Borderline's 18-and under girls team, leading them to a No. 9 regional ranking in the state of Ohio. He also was an assistant coach with the "Exterminators," a USA-Open Women's team that placed second at the Adult Nationals in Denver in May. The Exterminiators boasted five former Division I All-Americans, and one former national team player.

This summer, Shweisky traveled to Israel and served as the head coach of the 18-and under Jewish Olympic Team at the Maccabiah Games where the team won a silver medal. He also played with the USA Men's Team and helped them to a bronze medal finish.

In 2003, Shweisky served as the head varsity and junior varsity coach at Friends Seminary High School in his native New York City. He also guided the NYC Juniors Volleyball Club 17-and under national girls' club team in 2004.

Shweisky also spent a year at the collegiate level as the first assistant with the University of New Haven Division II men's volleyball program. At New Haven, Shweisky assisted in all facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, fund-raising, strength and conditioning, match preparation, practices and film exchange. During his time at New Haven, the Chargers posted the first winning record in program history.

Additionally, he served as head coach for the 16-and-under girls' team for the CT Juniors and was the first assistant to the Hudson Valley boys' scholastic team for the Empire State Games for five years (1997, '98, 99, '01, '03).

Shweisky also participated in the Empire State Games at the Hudson valley Open Level (2000 and 2002) and at the N.Y.C. Scholastic Level (1994, '95, '96). During his prep career at Hunter High School, Shweisky earned the Iron Horse Award as the MVP of New York City.

His international playing experience includes a one-year stint with Hajraa Volleyball Club in Eindhoven, Holland, in 2002-03, and participating in the Maccabiah Games in Israel in the Summer of 2001 where his team won a silver medal.

Shweisky was a four-year letterwinner at Vassar College, where he helped his team to the Division III National Championships as a senior. He finished his collegiate career ranked fourth in single-season digs at Vassar, fifth in single-season digs per game and seventh in all-time digs.

Shweisky earned his bachelor's degree in Hispanic studies and psychology from Vassar in 2001. At Miami, he is pursuing a master's degree in sports psychology.
