CLEVELAND - Following a seventh-place finish at the 2001 conference championships, Miami University's women's indoor track and field team was chosen sixth in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches poll. The Redhawks garnered 82 votes, landing just behind Central Michigan (89) and Akron (88).

All of Miami's big point-scorers in the distance events are back this year. Sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), fresh off her all-America cross country season, took second in the 3,000-meter run and fourth in the mile at the 2001 MAC Championships, while senior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio) will try to improve upon her seventh-place finish in the 5,000. Kremer also anchored the fourth-place distance medley relay team. The return of redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) also will bolster this group.

Sophomore Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) and junior Kate Christoff (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) look to be in the mix in the 60-meter hurdles after capturing seventh and eighth, respectively, in that event.

In the field events, sophomore Lindsay Hazen (Canton, Ohio/Massillion-Jackson) is coming off a fourth-place performance in the high jump, while sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) is in the hunt for a conference title in the shot put after coming in fifth last season. Sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) is expected to contribute points in the triple jump after claiming seventh in 2001.

Kent State is the preseason favorite, gathering 124 points from the league's coaches. Ball State and Eastern Michigan round out the top three with 117 and 103 points, respectively.
