OXFORD, Ohio - Five members of the Miami University women's track & field team were named Academic All-Americans by the United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA), head coach Rich Ceronie announced today. Leading the list of honorees is Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) who was awarded the honor for the second time. Joining Kremer on the list were juniors Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) , Lindsay Hazen (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton), as well as sophomore Katie Dyer (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillvile).

"To have five athletes earn academic all-America honors is very difficult," said Ceronie. "We are very proud of the discipline that our team embodies when it comes to their academic pursuits. (This illustrates) the ability of the university to provide an environment that fosters academic and athletic success, which is being utilized by our women's track & field team."

Kremer becomes the second RedHawk in program history to repeat as academic all-America, joining Tricia Roddy. This past year, Kremer became a three-time all-American, earning the accolades on the strength of a school-record time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships last month. Kremer acheived all-American status in both cross country and track & field in 2001, and previously earned academic all-America status in 2002. In the classroom she carries a 3.73 GPA while studying mathematics.

Collins earns this honor on the heels of her most successful season as a collegian. At the Outdoor MAC Championships, Collins was named Most Valuable Performer as she won championships with school-record throws in the shot put and hammer toss. Collins' hammer toss qualified her for the NCAA Regionals, where she placed 12th and earned a slot at the National Championships. An interdisciplinary studies major, Collins has had equal success off the field boasting a 3.51 GPA.

Hazen, a high jumper, qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships on the strength of her performance at the Miami Invitational. A personal-best jump of 5-7 vaulted Hazen to a third-place finish at the meet. A business major, Hazen maintains a 3.39 GPA.

Studer joined Kremer at the NCAA Regionals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Studer's then personal-best time at the MAC Championships earned her fourth place and a spot in the regionals. At the regionals, Studer took eighth with a time that bettered her previous best by neary six seconds. A sport organization major, Studer keeps up a 3.48 GPA.

Dyer earned her spot in the regionals with her showing at the MAC Championships. Using a personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles, Dyer finished in seventh place. At the regionals, the sophomore took 23rd place with a time just one second off her qualifying time. Off the track, Dyer is pre-medicine and has a 3.50 GPA

To earn this honor from the USTCA, an athlete must have at least a 3.20 GPA and qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships.
