Junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) finished her 2003 Track and Field season by running her personal best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place tenth in the entire nation at the NCAA Championship Final early Saturday morning in Sacramento, Calif. Kremer ran the race in 10:10.51, which is nearly two seconds faster than her personal best that she set last season.
Both juniors Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) and senior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) were ousted from the NCAA Championships earlier in the week as they failed to make the finals. Sophomore David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) earned the final spot in the 5,000-meter final, which will take place Saturday/Sunday at 9 p.m. PT/12 a.m. ET in Sacramento, Calif.
This year, Kremer has been named Verizon all-region, academic all-MAC and first team all-MAC in track and field. In addition to rewriting the record books in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, she also met the NCAA Regional Standard time in the 5,000-meter run. Kremer ran the second fastest time in school history behind former all-American, Molly Collen at the Adidas Raleigh Relays. At the MAC Championships, Kremer crushed the 3,000-meter steeplechase competition as she won by nearly 11 seconds with a track-record time. Kremer also set a track-record time in the 5,000-meter run for first place.
