Junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) was named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Track/Cross Country First-Team and head coach Richard Ceronie was named Mondo Great Lakes Coach-of-the-Year on Thursday. Kremer advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration, while Ceronie is one of nine national coaches to earn the Mondo track and field award.

Kremer is well versed on regional and national academic and athletic awards. Kremer gained academic all-America status from the United States Track Coaches Association and the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association, as well as academic all-district honors from Verizon last season. This year, Kremer continued to rewrite the record books in the 3000-meter steeplechase earlier this season at the Jesse Owens Classic as her NCAA Qualifying Standard time ranks second in Miami history and among the nation's elite. Kremer also met an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 5,000-meter run as she ran the second fastest time in school history behind former all-American, Molly Cullen at the Adidas Raleigh Relays. At the MAC Championships, Kremer crushed the 3,000-meter steeplechase competition as she won by nearly 11 seconds with a track-record time. Kremer also set a track-record time in the 5,000-meter run for first place. Finally, Kremer took sixth in the 1,500-meter run to nearly miss the NCAA Regional Qualifying time with her season-best time.

Kremer's success is not limited to track and field. At the Miami Fall Classic for cross country, Kremer's time was the fastest by a RedHawk on Miami's course. Kremer became the second runner in Miami cross country history to earn All-American honors courtesy of her 25th place finish in the NCAA Championships last year. Kremer has earned All-MAC status all three years and holds a 3.80 GPA in Mathematics.

"Andrea epitomizes everything that Miami wants in its athletic department from both an athletic and academic standpoint," said Ceronie. "She is one of the top student-athletes in the MAC."

Ceronie's coach-of-the-year award is the second award during the past two weeks. Earlier this month, Ceronie earned his second MAC Coach of the Year award in his 19 seasons as head coach at Miami. With Miami's second place finish this season, Ceronie led Miami to its best track and field finish since 1986, when Miami won the conference crown.

"This award is a reflection of our entire coaching staff," said Ceronie. "Both of our assistant coaches did a fantastic job this year and I am appreciative of their efforts."
