CLEVELAND - Following its eighth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Miami University women's track and field team placed two athletes on the all-MAC academic team as the conference office announced the 27-member team. Senior Taryn Nye (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and sophomore Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio) were both repeat selections after also earning the honor during the indoor track and field season.

Nye, the conference runner-up in the heptathlon, carries a 3.80 grade-point average in architecture and is one of Miami's most versatile athletes. A NCAA provisional qualifier in the heptathlon, Nye posted the second-best heptathlon score in Miami history (5,009 points) at the SeaRay Relays. Nye set a new Miami heptathlon record with her time of 25.25 in the 200 meters at the SeaRay Relays, and she also notched a pair of individual wins in the 200 meters (25.22) and long jump (18-7 1/4) at the Southern Ohio Cup. At the MAC Championships, Nye, an all-MAC second team honoree, helped account for 17 team points as she placed second in the heptathlon, fifth in the high jump and also ran a leg of the fourth-place 4x400 meter relay team. She also was named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week on March 21.

Henize, one of Miami's top distance runners, carries a 3.67 grade-point average in zoology and also scored at the conference meet. Competing in the 1,500 meters, Henize finished fifth at the MAC Championships, tallying four team points. During the season, Henize notched two individual wins in the 1,500 meters at the Charlotte Invitational and Miami Invitational, and she also won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the National City Invitational. Henize owns the top Miami time this season in the 1,500 meters (4:29.95), set at the Billy Hayes Invitational, and she also clocked in with the fastest Miami time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:06.05) at the National City Invitational.

Twenty-seven athletes from 11 different MAC schools were honored on the all-MAC academic team. Kent State led the conference with five selections, while Akron was second with four. Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan both placed three athletes on the team, while Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Miami and Toledo each had two athletes represented. Ohio and Northern Illinois each placed one on the team.

The all-MAC academic team is voted on by the faculty athletic representatives at the conference schools, and the honor is designated for student-athletes who excel in both athletics and academics. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible.
