OXFORD, Ohio - Junior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) were named to the inaugural Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Track & Field/Cross Country First Team, it was announced Thursday, May 23. It is the first such honor for Kremer, while Godsey was a second-team at-large selection last year.

Godsey, who is majoring in mathematics and statistics as well as finance and carries a 3.76 grade-point average, made the all-Mid-American Conference First Team in cross country last fall after placing fifth at the conference meet. He followed that up by being named to the all-Great Lakes Region squad, courtesy of his 25th-place finish. The runner-up in both the 5,000 and 10,000 at the 2001 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Godsey has received MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week laurels five times and MAC Runner of the Week four.

Kremer's list of credentials is even more impressive. Last fall she became just the second female in school history to earn all-America honors in cross country, a distinction she earned after coming in 25th at the national championships. She followed that up the next two seasons by being named second-team all-MAC, running her string of consecutive seasons as an all-conference performer to six. A 3.85 mathematics major, Kremer also was a member of the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Academic All-America team.

This year's team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District IV, which encompasses Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum GPA of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.

This year also marks the first time a track & field/cross country team has been selected in the 50-year history of the Verizon Academic All-America program. Those student-athletes named to the District IV first team will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which will be announced June 20.
