Junior Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) earned the Mid-American Conference Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week award this week, the conference office announced Monday. The award comes two days after she earned two first-place finishes and one second-place finish, while achieving three NCAA Regional qualifying marks as Miami won the Clemson Invitational.
Collins produced the top mark in the shot put when her throw measured out at 46'2" for the 10th longest throw in school history. Collins also earned the maximum amount of points in the hammer throw when she was the top college thrower to finish with a 170'7" mark and fifth all-time at Miami. In the discus throw, Collins was beat out by an Iowa State thrower, but she was able to earn second with a 153'09" mark.
This is the second MAC honor for Collins this year. Collins received her second career MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award on Feb. 12 during the indoor track and field season.
