TOUGH COMPETITION: When the Miami women's track and field team travels to the Clemson Invitational this weekend, it will follow the trend that Miami teams continually set of competiting against the nation's top competition heading into the Mid-American Conference season. On Saturday at Rock Norman Track in Clemson, S.C., Miami will challenge the very tough Clemson and Iowa State squads along with Appalachian State, Charlotte and East Carolina.

The RedHawks are no stranger to tough competition. During the past two weekends, Miami has sent competitiors to some of the nation's top meets; the Alabama Relays and the Adidas Raleigh Relays. Some of Miami's other runners competed in the Ball State Relays in place of the Adidas Raleigh Relays last weekend.

KING KREMER: Junior Andrea Kremer posted a new personal record in the 5,000-meter run at the Adidas Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State as she placed fifth out of over 150 runners with a time of 16:35.00. Only one other collegiate runner beat Kremer as she easily past the NCAA Regional Qualifying time on her way to setting her own personal record and giving Miami the second fastest time in school history behind former all-American, Molly Cullen.

NICE START: The RedHawks got the season off to a great start last weekend with many solid performances to help Miami place third out of 23 schools at the prestigious Alabama Relays.

-Junior Bernitta Johnson became only the second Miami athlete to surpass 41 feet in the triple jump to finish second for her personal-best mark.

-Junior Andrea Kremer placed first in the 5000-meter run with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 16:49.98, almost 20 seconds faster than the second finisher.

-Senior Erika Harper defeated 38 of 41 athletes in the 400 meters with a time of 55.86, coming close to the NCAA Regional qualifying time of 55.00.

-The 4x100-meter hurdle relay team of sophomore Katie Dyer, senior Kate Christoff, junior Jennifer Caldwell, and junior Erin Connolly placed second behind Alabama with a Miami school record time of 58.94, which broke the previous record set in 1996.

-The 4x1500-meter relay team broke the existing Miami record of 19:27.95 by over 17 seconds and finished first with a time of 19:10.83. Senior Kylee Studer, sophomore Sarah Bertolini, freshman Kelly Ardelean, and senior Andrea Kremer combined to finish over a minute ahead of the second place team.

-The 4x800-meter relay team of junior Jenny Korrison, senior Sara Edwards, freshman Sophia Afridi, and sophomore Sarah Correll combined to barely break the seven-year Miami school record with a time of 9:16.28 for fifth overall.

-Freshman Johanna Borawski finished second collegiality after throwing the javelin 129'5", to move her into seventh all-time at Miami.
