Oxford, Ohio - Having already proven herself against the nation's elite, sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) is now being recognized as one of the finest steeplechasers in the world.
In the latest rankings put out by Steeplechase Report, a service that coordinates and keeps records of steeplechases across the globe, Kremer is the world's fourth fastest 3,000-meter steeplechaser in the under-20 age group. She also ranks No. 2 in the Junior Division (ages 14-19).
Kremer's time of 10:12.86, which she recorded in finishing first at the 2001 Mid-American Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, places her behind only Australia's Melissa Rollison (9:30.70) and Finland's Ulla Tuimala (10:04.99) and Anni Tuimala (10:07.41). She was named all-America after coming in 10th in the steeplechase at the last year's NCAA Championships with a time of 10:14.62.
Kremer is coming off an indoor track season in which she was named second-team all-MAC after top-five performances in the mile and the 3,000 at the conference meet.
The outdoor season for her and her teammates begins this weekend at the Alabama Relays. She will have to wait to make her 2002 steeplechase debut, however, as it is not scheduled to be run.
