Alex Wilson Invite Schedule of Events
OXFORD, Ohio - Coming off a fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships last weekend, the Miami University women’s track and field team heads to South Bend, Ind. for the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, this weekend. The competition will be the RedHawks’ final indoor meet of 2010 and be Miami’s last chance for individuals to qualify for the NCAA Championships next weekend.
Action at the Loftus Sports Center gets underway Friday at 5 p.m. with the women’s weight throw, while the high jump and 5,000m run will be contested at 7 p.m. The day’s events conclude at 7:45 p.m. with the distance medley relay. On Saturday, women’s events begin at 11 a.m. with the shot put while the Meyo Track sees its first action also at 11 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles prelims. The meet then concludes at approximately 2:10 p.m. with the women’s 4x400-meter relay. For a complete schedule of events, click here.
Last week, the RedHawks totaled 79.5 points to place fourth at the MAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Central Michigan, as Kent State won the team title. Miami junior Kelley Miller (Dublin, Ohio) won the MAC title in the mile run in 4:58.42 while she, along with junior Ruth Rasch (Bellbrook, Ohio), junior Katie Lenahan (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Amanda Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.) combined to win the distance medley relay final in 11:44.69.
Four RedHawks have earned provisional NCAA qualifying times/scores so far as Miller has done so in the mile (4:46.57), Mirochna in the 3,000m run (9:31.98) and redshirt sophomore
Rachel Patterson (Rochester, Mich.) in the 5,000m run (16:40.13), all three of which are school records, while senior
Nicki Mitchell (Lake Forest, Ill.), who took second in the pentathlon at last weekend’s MAC Championships, earned a provisional score of 3,884 on Feb. 12 at the All-Ohio Championships, which ranks 25th nationally. The field for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark., will be announced Monday, March 8. Miami begins its 2010 outdoor season March 26-27 at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold meet in Nashville, Tenn.
