OXFORD, Ohio - The Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA) announced that for the eighth year in a row Miami University's women's cross country team has earned Division I Academic All-America team status, with distinction honors for earning a cumulative team grade point average of 3.48. The WICCCA also awarded sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) Division I Academic All-America accolades.

To qualify for Academic All-America status, a team must compete at the NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00. Teams that achieve a 3.25 overall GPA are awarded "with distinction honors." For individuals, earning Academic All-America honors requires he or she finish in the top 20 at the NCAA Regional Championships, or earn All-America honors, and carry above a cumulative 3.25 GPA.

The women's cross country team placed 11th in the Great Lakes Region while its 3.48 GPA led all RedHawk fall teams and ranked 18th in the nation. Of the 319 Division I women's cross country programs, about 75 earn All-America team honors each year.

Kremer, who earned all-region and all-America laurels last fall, carries a 3.85 GPA in mathematics. Out of the more than 4,000 runners who compete at the Division I level, less than 100 earn this honor each year. Kremer becomes just the second Miamian to be named an Academic All-American, following Tricia Roddy '99, who earned the award in 1996 and 1998.
