FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Miami University senior high jumper Kristina Bolterstein has qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing fifth in the Mideast Regional competition on Saturday at McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
With her 3.5 points, Bolterstein placed the RedHawks 34th out of 102 represented teams.
Bolterstein ended competition in a tie for fifth place after clearing 5-9 ¼, but missing on three chances at 5-11 ¼. The native of Middleburg Heights, Ohio went into a sudden death jump-off with Megan Seidl, a junior from the University of Wisconsin for the right to fifth place and a ticket to the national championships.
Both contestants missed an attempt at 5-11 ¼ and did likewise at 5-10 ¼. At the third height of 5-9 ¼, Bolterstein cleared while Seidl narrowly missed, propelling Bolterstein to her second-straight NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Bolterstein will compete on Wednesday, June 11 in the national prelims with the finals scheduled for Friday, June 13 on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
One season ago, Bolterstein finished 14th at the national championships, earning All-American honors.
