The Miami women's track and field team earned its highest track and field finish since 1986 as it placed second at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday in Central Michigan. Junior Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) earned the Outstanding Female Athlete of the Championships award while head coach Richard Ceronie took the MAC Coach of the Year award.
The Red and White earned 106 points for second out of 11 teams. The RedHawks were 11.5 points behind Eastern Michigan who came from behind to take the crown.
Collins took second in the discus with a 153'10" mark to finish the MAC Championships with 28 individual points. Collins took first in the shot put and the hammer throw earlier in the weekend.
Junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) also showed her all around ability by taking first in the 5,000-meter run with a track record time of 16:48.90. Kremer's time was the sixth fastest in Miami history. Kremer also took sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:32.40 mark.
Junior Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) also placed first for Miami as she set a track record time in the 100-meter hurdles with a 0:13.69 mark. Connolly's personal record time moves her to second all-time on Miami's top-ten list.
Junior Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) gave Miami more field event points as she placed second in the triple jump with a 41'07" mark for eight team points.
Miami also earned seven points in the 400-meter dash with junior Erika Harper (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) taking third with a time of 0:54.97 while junior Erica Barnett (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) placed eighth for one point with a 0:58.55 time.

The RedHawks also gained six points from the 4x400-meter relay as sophomore Rasheda Malcolm (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken), Dyer, Caldwell and Harper combined for a time of 3:46.05.
Miami earned its final point from freshman Taryn Nye (St. Johnsbury, Vermont/St. Johnsbury) as she finished eighth in the heptathlon for the RedHawks.
Many of Miami's athletes will continue their season as they compete on May 30th at Ohio State University at the NCAA Regionals.
