YPSILANTI, Mich. - Miami's women's track and field team sits in seventh, with three points, while the men have yet to score after the first day at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) was the only scorer for either squad.

Collins' fourth toss of the day in the hammer resulted in a mark of 164-11, good for a sixth-place finish.

The busiest RedHawks on Thursday were decathletes Charles Davis (Riverside, Ohio/Walter E. Stebbins), a sophomore, and Richard Collins (Marion, Ohio/Ridgedale), a freshman. Davis is in sixth through five events, with 3,331 points, while Collins is 10th, with 2,725. Davis' day was highlighted by second-place finishes in the 100 (11.31) and 400 (51.39).

The closest a male came to scoring was in the 10,000. Junior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) crossed the finish line 10th in a time of 30:54.89.

Defending men's champion Eastern Michigan is on top after the first day, with 20 points, while reigning women's titleholder Ball State is edging Kent, 19-18.

Competition begins at 10:30 a.m on Day Two, when nine individual champions will be crowned.
