OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Quekan Ibidunni regionally qualified in the hammer throw and the Miami University women's track and field team scored in two events as it wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Through three events, Miami stands seventh with eight points, while the defending champion Akron Zips (35 points) are in first place.

Ibidunni was the highest placing Miamian on the first day of the conference meet, as she registered a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw. Tossing a distance of 178-9, Ibidunni earned five team points and regionally qualified in the hammer throw for the first time in her career. It is the second time she has regionally qualified in a throwing event, as she also surpassed the regional benchmark in the discus as a sophomore. The top four finishers in Thursday's hammer throw all regionally qualified, with Akron's Stevi Large setting a new meet, conference and track record in the event (202-5).

Miami's other scoring athlete on day one was freshman Brittney Bernardoni, as she cleared a sixth-place height in the pole vault. Having already regionally qualified in the event, Bernardoni cleared 11-11 3/4 on Thursday, earning three team points for the RedHawks. The top four vaulters all cleared the regional-qualifying standard, with Eastern Michigan's Janice Keppler capturing first place with a vault 13-1 1/2.

The fire four events of the heptathlon also were completed, with Patrice Coney of Buffalo (3,151 points) taking the early lead. Miami freshman Nicki Mitchell stands 16th in the heptathlon through four events, totaling 2,464 points.

Ibidunni is the fourth Miamian to regionally qualify this season, joining junior Kristina Bolterstein (high jump), freshman Brittney Bernardoni (pole vault) and freshman Alisha Jones (400-meter hurdles).

Day two of the MAC Championships gets underway tomorrow with the multi-events at 9:00 a.m. The men's long jump will be the first individual event contested on Friday, with the long jump finals slated for noon at the George L. Rider Track Complex.
