OXFORD, Ohio - For the second week in a row, Miami's men's track and field team was victorious as it took top honors with 161 points at the Miami Invitational on Saturday, April 13 at George Rider Track. It is the second time the RedHawks have won the meet, the first being in 1999. The women came in fourth, totaling 89.5 points on the day.
The men easily beat runner-up Ball State, which accumulated 113 points. Michigan won the women's meet going away, with 215.5 points, 73 ahead of second-place Ball State.
For the men, six individuals and one relay team came out on top. Highlighting that group was junior Ed Morgan (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington, South), who won the 800 in a personal-best time of 1:49.90, which also tied the meet record set in 1995 by Notre Dame's Jeff Hojnacki and moved him into No. 2 on the school's all-time list in that event.
The other winners were senior Mike Adams (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) in the 100 (10.65), junior DeLeon Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in the 400 (48.54), junior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) in the 5,000, junior Javin Tucker (Trotwood, Ohio/Madison) in the 400 hurdles (53.59), sophomore Nick Somerville (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) in the long jump (23-11 1/2) and the 4x400 relay team of senior Dave Bonner (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview), Johnson, Tucker and Morgan, which crossed the finish line in 3:14.38.
Other impressive showings include Bonner and freshman Ryan Schreck (Hicksville, Ohio/Hicksville) placing second and third in the 400, respectively, sophomore Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East), freshman David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore Ryan Clark (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton/Tennessee) going 3-4-5 in the 1,500, sophomore Charles Davis (Riverside, Ohio/Walter E. Stebbins) placing runner-up in the 110 hurdles, and freshman Erik Reynolds (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) claiming second in the high jump, in which he cleared a personal-best height of 6-10.

The most outstanding performer, however, was sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central), who came in third in the hammer (172-5) and fourth in the shot put (45-0 1/2) and discus (137-0).
Sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) finished third in the triple jump (38-8 1/4), ran a leg of the fourth-place 400 relay (48.68), seventh in the 100 (12.43) and ninth in the long jump (16-10).
The strongest event for the women was the 100 hurdles, in which they had three of the top six finishers. Sophomore Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) took runner-up in 14.37, followed by freshman Katie Dyer (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) in fourth (14.68) and junior Kate Christoff (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) in sixth (14.79).
The 400 hurdles proved to be fruitful as well as Dyer and junior Jolien Jakubick (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) came in third (1:02.43) and fifth (1:05.19), respectively.
In all, nine meets records were set and five NCAA Division I Provosional Qualifying Standards were met at the meet.
Both the men and women stay in Oxford this Saturday as they host the Southern Ohio Cup at George Rider Track. Throwing and jumping events begin at 10:30 a.m. while action on the track starts at 1 p.m.
